If you have never been to Timberline Lodge outside of Portland, Oregon, you just haven't lived. It was many, many years ago when I first visited this special place on Mt. Hood. I was in awe then and still stand in reverence whenever I visit there.
This is a true resort location, complete with guest rooms, dining room, and locations for get-togethers. Each guest room in the hotel has a special and unique rustic elegance, period furnishings, unique artwork and décor. Yet, the rooms are modern and comfortable, including fresh powder feather beds, heated pool, span, and sauna.
The Cascade Dining Room is a place that serves the best in foods, whether it is casual fare, or heartier meals. They offer everything from burgers, an alpine lunch, to ales and award-winning wines.
Timberline Lodge is on the National Historic Landmark list as a hotel, ski lodge, and an Oregon icon. It was built by the Works Progress Administration during 1936 and 1937. It was dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in September 1937. It wasn't until 1978 that it was placed on the National Historic Landmark list. Most of the original furnishings and art works remain intact from the very beginning.
